Last year, the Gimcheon Gimbap Festival garnered immense attention but faced significant chaos due to gimbap selling out early and severe traffic congestion on narrow roads. Many attendees reported, "I went to Gimcheon for gimbap but couldn't even see any gimbap."
One year later, on October 25-26, 2025, Gimcheon City is back and has truly pulled out all the stops.
The preview I attended today (the 24th) showed a completely different atmosphere from last year, with clean booths and even corporate sponsors like Lotte and Nongshim participating.
Here's what has changed and the 'essential tips' every visitor must know.
1. Basic Information (Dates and Venue)
- Festival Period: October 25 (Sat) ~ October 26 (Sun), 2025 (2 days)
- Operating Hours: 10:00 AM ~ 5:00 PM (Artist performances continue into the evening)
- Venue: Around Jikji Culture Park and Samyeongdaesa Park (Expanded 5 times compared to last year)
- Admission Fee: Free
2. "Vehicle Control" - You MUST Use the Shuttle Bus! (Essential!)
It's no exaggeration to say that the success of this year's festival hinges on the 'shuttle bus' system. To prevent the severe traffic congestion of last year, roads around the festival area (Deokcheon 4-way intersection to Jikjisa Public Parking Lot) will be operated as 'bus-only lanes', and private vehicles will be strictly controlled.
If you bring your car thinking "there will be parking," you might relive last year's nightmare.
- Parking: Park at outer parking lots such as Gimcheon Sports Town, Green Future Science Center (free)
- Transportation: Shuttle buses (6 routes) operate from the parking lots to the festival venue (4 times more than last year)
- Shuttle Tip: Discount coupons exclusively for shuttle bus users and special events are prepared. Using the shuttle is not an 'inconvenience' but a 'benefit'.
3. What's 'Radically' Different in 2025?
Firstly, a "No VIPs" Revolutionary Opening Ceremony
This is the most surprising change. The city has abolished the customary official opening ceremony. The festival will begin with performances and programs solely for visitors, without introductions of dignitaries, congratulatory speeches, or welcoming remarks. This highlights the mindset that 'the tourists are the main characters of the festival'.
Secondly, "No Gimbap Sold Out" - 32 Vendors, 50+ Varieties
To prevent a gimbap sell-out similar to last year, the number of gimbap booths has been quadrupled. A total of 32 vendors will sell over 50 types of gimbap in 'Premium Local Gimbap Zone', 'Unique Gimbap Zone', and 'Kimgane Event Zone'. Furthermore, a 'kiosk' ordering system has been introduced to minimize waiting lines.
Thirdly, a "Picnic Vibe" with Free Mat Rental
Gimbap goes hand-in-hand with picnics. Five information centers will offer free mat rentals for two hours. You can fully enjoy the autumn picnic atmosphere by sitting on the grass at Jikji Culture Park.
