"Excuse Me, Payment Failed!" Imoya Kinjiro Apgujeong Grand Opening Day Chaos Review (ft. Waiting, Freebies, 🚨Only 4 Card Types Accepted)

Everyone! It's here! It's finally here! 🎉

The legendary 'Sweet Potato Stick' 🍠, Imoya Kinjiro, that you absolutely must stock up on if you visit Fukuoka, finally opened its first Korean branch in Apgujeong yesterday (October 23rd)! (Applause, cheers)

People used to say, "I'd go to Japan just to buy this," so I thought there would be an insane queue for the open run.

But guess what? The news is it wasn't as crazy as expected! I also heard about the opening yesterday and quickly rushed over.

So, how was the taste? The wait? And... the nerve-wracking payment card chaos that led to cries of "Why can't I pay?!" I'll unravel everything for you right now.

1. Location, Waiting? "I Felt Like a Yakuza Boss"

🍠 Imoya Kinjiro Apgujeong Branch

  • Location: 19 Nonhyeon-ro 175-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul (1-3 min walk from Apgujeong Station Exit 4)
  • Business Hours: 10:00 AM ~ 7:00 PM
  • Feature: No eat-in area, take-out specialized!

I visited on the opening day (10/23) around 11 AM, and luckily, there was no outdoor queue! (Those who did the open run entered first... 👍)

Maybe because it was the first day, there were so many staff members, and as soon as I opened the door, they all greeted me enthusiastically... (I kind of felt like a Yakuza boss... 😅) They were incredibly friendly.

2. What to Buy? (Menu, Prices, and Calorie Fact Bomb)

Alright, let's pick up a basket and start filling it!

  • Large Sweet Potato Kenpi (300g): 12,000 KRW
    • This is the 'signature' item in the ziplock bag.
    • (Breaking News) Eating all 300g equals 1,510 calories, 75.6g of sugar... 😇 I'll buy it and start my diet tomorrow!
  • Premium Kenpi / Salt flavor / Black Sesame (90-100g): 5,500 KRW
    • Smaller sizes. Personally, the 'salt flavor' wasn't sweet and salty, but 'sweet + salty', making it less cloying and more delicious! (This one is 503 calories, 25g of sugar per 100g)
  • Sweet Potato Chips (Purple / Beniharuka, 60g): 5,500 KRW
    • These are thin chips, not sticks.
    • (Shock) I thought they'd be less sweet because they're thin, but 30g of sugar per 60g...? The chips actually felt sweeter!
  • 🔥Freshly Baked Sweet Potato Kenpi (100g): 6,000 KRW
    • There was a tasting corner for this one. And lo and behold? It wasn't the stick we knew!
    • It's a 'Gangjeong' (traditional Korean sweet crunchy snack) style, made by clumping together the powder(?) leftover from making sweet potato sticks with sugar. It was warm and delicious, but just a heads-up, it's not the visual we expected!

3. So, How's the Taste? "Is it that Fukuoka Taste... Really?"

The most important part: the taste review!

In a word, "a sophisticated sweet potato Tanghulu?" The outside has a crispy sugar coating.

I naturally expected it to be 'sweet and salty', but there's almost no saltiness; it's closer to 'sweet sweet sweet sweet'. (Excluding the salt flavor)

So, it seems there might be differing opinions: "It's not as special as I thought" vs. "This addictive sweetness, I can't stop eating it."

Conclusion: It's sweet. It's delicious. But it's REALLY sweet! 🤣 Americano is essential.

4. "I Spent 50,000 KRW to Get This" Grand Opening Event!

Since you're going anyway, you should grab the freebies, right?

  • ⭐ Purchase over 30,000 KRW: Imoya Kinjiro 'Net Bag' included
  • ⭐ Purchase over 50,000 KRW: 'Net Bag' + 'Best Amenity Multi-Grain Rice Set' included

I filled up to 50,000 KRW and got both. (Yes, I'm the one who bought 35,000 KRW worth of sweet potato sticks...) The net bag is surprisingly sturdy and large, perfect for grocery shopping! The multi-grain rice set... apparently, you add it when cooking rice. (Not birdseed.)

5. 🚨🚨🚨 URGENT! Read This Before Opening Your Wallet (Payment Card Chaos)

Everyone. This is seriously the most important thing.

As of yesterday (10/23), **merchant registration is not yet complete, so ⚠️only certain credit card companies can be used for payment⚠️**!

I innocently handed over my card and broke into a cold sweat when they said, "Customer, this card..."

✅ Currently Accepted Cards (Must Read!)

  • Hana Card
  • Lotte Card
  • BC Card
  • Shinhan Card

Hyundai Card? Samsung Card? Kookmin Card? No... they are not accepted. 😭 (As of 11 AM when I visited)

Q. What if I don't have cash?!
A. Luckily, 'bank transfer' was possible!

If you go without knowing this, you won't be able to buy the sweet potato sticks, even with them right in front of you... Definitely check beforehand!

Overall Review: "Still Worth the Wait!"

Although the payment situation was a bit nerve-wracking, being able to taste Imoya Kinjiro directly in Korea, which I used to only buy through overseas direct purchases, is truly wonderful!

If you love sweet and crispy sweet potato sticks, hurry and check it out before the event ends! (But confirming your card is essential!)
