Are there people who hunt for seasonal ingredients every time the seasons change, asking "What's most delicious right now?" I'm one of them. 😊 I heard a rumor about a restaurant in Jeongja-dong, Bundang, that has been exclusively dedicated to 'Namdo seasonal cuisine' for 20 years, so I rushed over. It's Jjurak Bundang Main Branch!
This place is famous for offering fresh seafood like jukkumi (webfoot octopus), sannakji (live octopus), hamo (daggertooth pike conger), mineo (croaker), and bang-eo (yellowtail) each season, but their all-year-round 'Deokja' (large pompano) dishes are said to be their true 'signature'. What is 'Deokja', and what's the best way to eat it? Today, I'll properly tell you everything!

2. The Grandeur of 20 Years of Expertise! Namdo-Style Side Dishes are in a Different 'Class' ✨
The first thing that will impress you when you sit down! It's the seemingly endless array of Namdo-style side dishes. There are many varieties, and each one is so delicious that I almost finished a bowl of rice even before the main dishes arrived. 😅
- Memorable Side Dishes: The refreshingly sharp taste of mukeunji (aged kimchi), fresh guljeot (oyster kimchi), explosively savory galchi sokjeot (salted hairtail entrails), and crispy and savory kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake), etc... (No artificial seasonings!)
3. Today's Main Stars: 'Deokja-hoe + Jorim Set' (This is the Real Deal!) 🐟
Finally, the main course appears! We ordered the signature menu, the Deokja-hoe and Jorim Set (58,000 KRW per person / minimum order for 2 people). 'Deokja' is said to be a much larger and more precious fish than regular pompano!
1) Deokja-hoe (Aged Pompano Belly Sashimi): The Ultimate in Chewiness and Savory Richness! 😋
- Visual: Thick belly slices prepared in a V-shape! You can tell its freshness just by looking.
- Texture & Taste: Combined with the unique umami of aged sashimi, the chewy yet tender and rich flavor that gets better with each chew is superb.
- ✨ How to Eat (Essential!): They have a special ssam (wrap) method here! (The staff will personally demonstrate 👍)
- Lay down ssamchu (lettuce) + perilla leaf.
- Dip the Deokja-hoe generously in sesame oil + doenjang (fermented bean paste) sauce and place it on top.
- Add a little bit of garlic + chili + galchi sokjeot + rice grains!
- Pop it into your mouth! -> 😭 (Crying because it's so delicious...)
The taste of the fish itself + the fragrant freshness of vegetables + the savory depth of doenjang + the umami of salted fish guts + the sweetness of rice grains = a perfect harmony!
2) Deokja-jorim (Braised Pompano): Spicy Broth + Thick Flesh = Rice Thief🍚
- Deokja-jorim appears when you're almost done with the sashimi! (It's already cooked, so you can eat it right away after a quick boil.)
- Flesh: "Is this really fish meat?" It's incredibly thick! There's so much to eat.
- Broth & Ingredients: The broth is spicy yet savory, with plenty of radish and fernbrake! It's fun to pick out the radish and fernbrake steeped in the sauce.
- Taste: The tender and delicate Deokja flesh infused with the spicy seasoning makes it truly a 'bap-doduk' (rice thief). Mixing rice with the broth is also fantastic!
4. Atmosphere & Service
While a 20-year-old place might have a slightly antique feel, it's generally spacious and clean, making it pleasant. There are seats with partitions and private rooms, making it suitable for any gathering, be it family dining, company dinners, or entertaining guests. The staff were also kind and explained how to eat the dishes, which helped us enjoy the meal even more.
5. Overall Review: "Namdo Seasonal Cuisine in Bundang? This is the Place!" 💯
- Taste: Fresh seasonal seafood + 20 years of culinary expertise = 👍
- Uniqueness: 'Deokja-hoe' and jorim, hard to find elsewhere! (Especially recommend the ssam method!)
- Atmosphere: Spacious, pleasant, private rooms available.
- Price: Not cheap, but considering the quality and taste of ingredients, and generous portions, it's definitely worth it!
